HISTOCOMPATIBILITY LABORATORY

The Histocompatibility Laboratory was founded more than 35 years ago. Under the direction of Professor Claude Daniel, the lab provides immunological tissue typing to determine compatibility between donors and patients awaiting organ transplant with a view to maximizing transplant success rates. The service is available around the clock. Tests are performed for kidney, heart, cornea, lung, and pancreas transplants. The Histocompatibility Laboratory serves transplant units in a number of hospitals in the greater Montreal area, where it is responsible for approximately 60% of all such analyses conducted in Quebec. The laboratory works as part of the Quebec-Transplant network in cooperation with laboratories at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec.

DOPING CONTROL LABORATORY

To maximize the fight against doping in the sports world, the Doping Control Laboratory develops methods for detecting and identifying increasingly sophisticated doping agents. Accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and several other international sports federations, the Laboratory, directed by Professor Christiane Ayotte, also performs analyses to the highest scientific standards.

TECHNICAL SERVICES

The INRS–Institut Armand-Frappier Centre provides research and community support services in the human and animal health sectors. It boasts exceptional analytical capabilities in chemistry, microbiology and immunology, genomics and proteomics, as well as molecular and cellular biology. The lab is also associated with the National Experimental Biology Centre.

The only facility of its kind in Canada, it specializes in developing vaccines and drugs to fight AIDS, hepatitis, SARS, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, and provides the scientific and pharmaceutical community with services dedicated to the research, development, and control of biologically active molecules in living organisms. The INRS–Institut Armand-Frappier Centre is also home to several special purpose laboratories, including the Doping Control Laboratory, the only anti-doping laboratory in Canada accredited by the World Anti-doping Agency; the Histocompatibility Laboratory, which provides immunological tissue typing services to determine compatibility between donors and patients awaiting organ transplant; and the INRS-INSERM International Associated Laboratory for Peptide Pharmacology.
