Three INRS professors selected as senior members of the Optical Society

Three professors from the INRS Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre have been named senior members of the Optical Society (OSA) in recognition for their contributions to the advancement of knowledge in optics and photonics. François Légaré, Luca Razzari, and Federico Rosei, who is also the director of this university research centre, all have over ten years of professional experience in these fields and are among the four Canadians on the list of 182 researchers worldwide to receive this recognition from OSA in 2017.
 
 

Molecular imaging
Professor Légaré was recognized by OSA for his outstanding contributions in ultrafast molecular imaging and the development and application of high-power ultrafast infrared lasers. He and his team developed the concept of frequency domain optical parametric amplification (FOPA) and helped spur advances in interpreting nonlinear optical signals in biological tissue. He also oversees the Advanced Laser Light Source Laboratory.
 
 
 
 
 
Nonlinear integrated optics and terahertz spectroscopy
OSA selected Professor Razzari for his important contributions in the development of photonic devices for the ultrafast processing of optical data. He was also a pioneer in the use of nanoantenna resonances to improve terahertz spectroscopy. In addition, Professor Razzari has helped disseminating the most recent findings in optics and photonics through the organization of several international conferences.  
 
 
 
 
 
Solar technology
As for Professor Rosei, who holds the Canada Research Chair in Nanostructured Materials (Tier 1), OSA values his leadership in the field of photonic materials and optoelectronic devices, particularly for next-generation solar technologies. With the help of his team, Professor Rosei has conducted groundbreaking work on the synthesis and characterization of quantum dots, as well as contributing to their integration in photovoltaic or photoelectrochemical devices and luminescent solar concentrators. ♦
